[Good thing the question was rhetorical? The choke-cough does serve to remind Myrnin that she needs to breath and cutting off oxygen for too long damages the brain. He releases her for just a moment.

Unfortunately for Beckett, backhanding her hard across the cheek does not damage the brain.]

I've tried to be nice. I've tried to be humane and understanding but there is a limit to my charity and you have just reached it.

[He looms over her, well in front of the exit and more than fast enough to stop her should she decide to scream or run]

[She can't help it, this time she does yell out. It might as well be a semi-truck slamming across Kate's cheek and she bites off her own voice, wondering if he'll get some sort of satisfaction from hearing her.

Still, the pain needs to be expressed to be relieve and the tears that stream down her face only serve to make it sting more. She barely hears the words he's saying, a thousand other things racing through her mind; the boat, Castle, escape and for a moment, a bully she knew back in middle school. The one she finally got sick of and fought back against.

And her game plans changes, now Kate's hoping for the worst.]

Charity isn't locking someone up to steal their brain.

[With that, she shoves out with her foot toward his knee with all the strength she can muster. Kate knows it will barely make him twitch, but it's not that reaction she's looking for. Kate's looking for his retaliation.]

[When she kicks him in the shin, a look of annoyance crosses his face. He strikes her again, hard across the jaw.]

The charity comes in the kindness I've shown you so far. Torture hurts your psyche but not your physical brain.

[She crumples to the ground with his next hit, elbows scuffing on the rough surface and when her face collides with the floor there's a moment she expects the world around her to fade out.

When it doesn't, she struggles to sit up again, wiping the blood from the corner of her mouth and wincing at the contact. It hurts when she forces a smile and a derisive snort.]

Trust me I've seen torture. Not cutting it.

[She's panicking, yes, and saying stupid crap. Maybe it's the curse, maybe it's being hit in the face full force by an insane vampire. Either way, Beckett's done waiting for moment, whatever that moment is. Something needs to happen.]

[He grabs her by the wrist, pulling her up sharply and forcefully to drag her back into the cage.]

[She doesn't even have time to fight against him, or attempt to make it difficult. Pathetically, Kate just drags behind him like some kind of rag doll.]

[And she does it again; stupid choices. Kate stomps as hard as she can, aiming for his foot and then twisting to try to break free, whether she gets him in the foot or not.]

[The stomp to his foot makes him growl and he shoves her from behind, hard. Why not give her the hope that she can escape. It'll only make this more fun]

[And try to escape she does. Beckett's immediately bolting for the door, wrenching it open and hitting the sewer as fast as her stupid human legs will allow.]

[She wastes no time in attempting to attract attention once she's out.]

[She's underground. The quality of the citizens here don't lend themselves to 'helping' so Myrnin doesn't hurry in particular. He doesn't let her get far from him though, sticking to the shadows, ready to dart out at any moment if need be to silence her.]

[It's too dark and she's starting to panic, now that's she's been left alone and no one is around to hear her. Beckett starts to stumble, feeling along the ground for something to use to defend herself, now.

She's not going to escape, but maybe she can kill him. Maybe if she just gets something wooden and an angle of surprise...]

[He's just a few feet behind her, watching. He kicks a crate very deliberately and steps just enough into a light that Beckett can see him. He is, at heart, a hunter and he's hunting now.]

[She expects it, and still Beckett stumbles. She's searching frantically for something to defend herself with, and coming up empty.]

You don't want to do this.

[There is no confidence behind her voice. And she's back up, scrambling to get away. Kate's pretty sure she's been scared in her life, but until now she's never been terrified.]
