16th arrest | ill jail and bury those committed and smother the rest in greed

private, off network
-Shifts, weapons, sick days, ++catering
-Jailhouse (Romana/security)
-Bath salts (as if I'll ever get to use them)
-Remind Castle about the 'no surprises' clause; possibly shoot him in the leg
-Transfer prisoners, keep hoping they disappear like a curse
-Remind the boys of the 'no flame throwers' rule
-...Look into ONE flamethrower to shut them the hell up
-Sleep, ever

I'd like to thank the citizens who stepped up to give us a hand in taking care of the sudden onslaught of crime in the City. It's good to know when it comes down to it, we can work together. Please be advised that while the violence has subsided, it is not entirely gone. Not that you need the warning, but be careful out there.

Shifts are going to be switching up this week, to accomodate as best we can for the fact that everyone worked 24-plus since Monday. If you're stuck on first, I apologize but the choosing was completely random and arbitrary. Some of the backups have been injured or are otherwise down for a time from dealing with last night. I understand it's probably an insane request but if there are any volunteers for the first swing, I'd be grateful.

For those of you who will be around today, I'm having food catered in at about 2pm. First come - first serve, you animals.

I'd like to remind you all that visible identification is mandatory when on duty. This doesn't apply to just the station, this is any time you are on duty. If I keep seeing missing shields, there are going to be consequences. If you have a legitimate reason for a lack of ident, I better have a file signed by your supervisor about it.

And finally, I'm securing an abandoned slaughterhouse out on the northern outskirts of the City that we're going to start fitting to a jailhouse. It won't be anything spectacular for now but it should help this overflow a bit. I'm still getting to weapons and equipment paperwork and through the sick day requests, unfortunately things are going slower than I'd hope after the unrest.

When you have a moment, I'd like to discuss security measures we might take on the new prison.

Haven't had a good spar since I got here. Better than a massage, I swear, so who's up for it? C'mon, I won't fire you if you beat me. I'm at the department gym and this punching bag just isn't doing it for me.

Yes, from not busy to marginally busy. This is all bureaucratic garbage that gives you all sorts of clearances and makes you officially my executive assistant. I'm really not sure why I didn't do this sooner.

[She forks over a pen for Justin's signature, hoping he takes it and jumps right into the assistant seat.]

It's idiomatic, isn't it. It's not that he's human, but rather that he stands on top of what he does.

Thank you. I'll do what I can.

Glad to hear it-- SHODAN? You're from the year 2114, huh?

If you need to, feel free to shadow me for a couple days. It's nothing that's very difficult, just time consuming and procedural. Some of it isn't exactly required here but I'm running most of it the way we would back in New York, just because it's what I know works.

[She's getting away from herself, there. Once he's finished she takes the pen and papers back, filing them away.]

[identity profile] citadelspirit.livejournal.com 2010-05-28 01:01 am (UTC)(link)
I am. From the statistics I have gathered thus far...there is a 68.32% probability that you are from the early 2000's, like many of the humans here. Though I do not know if that would be my timeline or not.

[Brennan is taken aback and yet at the same time she isn't. She'd expected some personal element to play a part in Beckett's career move, but it's always slightly jarring to hear these unjust things happening to a person's family.]

I can understand that. I asked because often the people who are most dedicated to what they do have a personal story behind their drive. And from what I've observed, you seem very dedicated to what you do.

[Brennan pauses for a moment, uncertain for a moment how to proceed. But if there was something she'd learned from Booth since day one, it was that quid pro quo is only fair when dealing with other people - you give a little, you get a little. It works the other way around, too.]

My parents disappeared when I was fifteen. They just... didn't come back from Christmas shopping that year. Nobody knew what had happened to them. I became a forensic anthropologist mainly because it was a way for me to give the bereaved answers I didn't get to have myself. That through my work, I could spare someone else the pain of not knowing.

Oh, wow. I'm sorry to hear that.

[And she can't help but draw parallels, either. What Brennan noted seems true in her case as well, as far as dedication went. She didn't even have bones to study here and yet she came every day, just in case.]

Just gone? Did you ever...?

[Beckett can't help but start to ask. She lets it trail off when she realizes what she's doing. This isn't a case, and it isn't her mother's case. She didn't want to lead someone else down a path she might have already walked. One that Beckett knew intimately involved too much obsession and lost time.]

It happens. Usually places have trends, a sort of local crime temperature. The City is almost pure chaos; that's its pattern.

I am; 2010. Are you saying it's a possibility you're from my world?

combat baby, said you would never give up easy;

[identity profile] bonescientist.livejournal.com 2010-05-30 04:19 pm (UTC)(link)
[Brennan nods by way of response to Beckett's condolences. The story behind Brennan's parents is a long and complicated one, full of half-truths and curve balls. She doesn't really mind recounting it to Beckett, painful as it is. She likes to think whatever has been said here today will be kept confidential by both parties.]

For the longest time, I didn't really think about them. Sounds callous, but I was too concentrated on my studies, on earning good grades and getting out of the foster system I'd been sent after they disappeared - rebuilding my life, basically. Rationally, I knew that for someone to be gone for so many years had to be deceased. I thought I'd accepted that, but... when someone is gone like that, there's always that small hope that they'll come back one day. I never lost that, though I didn't think about it consciously.

[Pausing for a moment to draw in a deep breath, Brennan fiddles with her bottle. This was always the hardest part in the story.]

I'd been working at the Jeffersonian Institute for years when I was partnered with Booth from the FBI in 2005. I grew to trust him and eventually asked him to look into the case file on my parents. Shortly after that, during a normal identification process on one of the remains from our bone storage, it became evident that the remains we were identifying were those of Christine Brennan, disappeared in December 1991. She'd been murdered. Subdural hematoma caused by blunt force trauma to the head.
