Kate listens, unable to keep eye contact, and chewing at her lip as she absorbs what Castle says. It's a moment before she's able to collect her thoughts, and even then she's not sure anything is collected.
"When I first got here, one of the first things I did was go to the zoo. And what I saw there...it was supposed to prove to me that this is all real but it doesn't. It proves the opposite." She leans forward on her elbows a little heavier and sighs.
"We don't know what's around the corner. Alexis gets taken by a deity, some crazed vampire decides I'm the perfect brain for a supercomputer. You're right, though. I don't know that I can keep looking out for you. Apparently I really can't take care of myself, even."
Missing the point? Yeah, but she's a little hardheaded and more than one-track minded right now.
